چکیده

The present work aimed to compare antioxidant response and lipid peroxide detoxification capacity of an arctic-alpine species Arabis alpina its close relative model Arabidopsis thaliana under acute short duration (3 h 6 h) UV-B stress (4.6 8.2 W/m2). After 3 exposure UV-B, A. showed lower peroxidation H2O2 accumulation when compared thaliana. Moreover, Fv/Fm value dropped 0.70, while 0.75 indicating better protection PSII in this species. For elucidation the response, activities superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POX), ascorbate (APX), glutathione reductase (GR) dehydroascorbate (DHAR) were measured. SOD induction with was more prominent alpina. Also, had higher chloroplastic FeSOD activity APX also significantly induced alpina, decreased at or did not change able maintain constant CAT activity, but drastic decreases observed both time points. induce aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH), alkenal reductases (AERs) glutathione-S-transferases (GST) opposite trend These findings indicate that maintain/induce defence conferring against UV-B.

O 22: Reactive Oxygen Species and Epilepsy

Seizure activity has been proposed to result in the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which then contribute to seizure-induced neuronal damage and eventually cell death. Although the mechanisms of seizure-induced ROS generation are unclear, mitochondria and cellular calcium overload have been proposed to have a crucial role. We aim to determine the sources of seizure-induced ROS and ...

Reactive Oxygen Species (Ros-Induced) Ros Release

We sought to understand the relationship between reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the mitochondrial permeability transition (MPT) in cardiac myocytes based on the observation of increased ROS production at sites of spontaneously deenergized mitochondria. We devised a new model enabling incremental ROS accumulation in individual mitochondria in isolated cardiac myocytes via photoactivation of t...

Effect of Laurus nobilis L. Essential Oil and its Main Components on α-glucosidase and Reactive Oxygen Species Scavenging Activity

The present study was designed to determine the effects of the essential oil of Laurusnobilis L. (Lauraceae) and its three main components on α-glucosidase and reactive oxygenspecies scavenging activity. The chemical composition of the essential oil from Laurus nobilisL. leaves was analyzed by GC/GC-MS and resulted in the identification of 29 compounds, representing 99.18% of the total oil. 1,8-...

Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and Male Fertility

Oxidative energy production is inevitably associated with the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), excessive concentrations of which can lead to cellular pathol‐ ogy. A free radical may be defined as any molecule that has one or more unpaired electrons. The superoxide anion, the hydroxyl radical, and the hypochlorite radical are some of the highest reactive radicals of oxygen. Owing to ...

Mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) and ROS-induced ROS release.

Byproducts of normal mitochondrial metabolism and homeostasis include the buildup of potentially damaging levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), Ca(2+), etc., which must be normalized. Evidence suggests that brief mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) openings play an important physiological role maintaining healthy mitochondria homeostasis. Adaptive and maladaptive responses to r...
